The analysis carried out in this research aims to determine whether a correlation exists between road traffic fatalities and the economic development in Jordan. It includes two of the main indicators of economic activity: the unemployment rate and Gross domestic product (GDP).
The required research data were obtained from public security directorate and department of statistics for Jordan for the period from 1997 to 2017.
Descriptive analysis for the collected data was conducted, to identify the correlation between number of fatalities and GDP, and calculate the coefficient of determination (R²) by excel software. Then The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to develop three econometric models (Negative binomial regression model, linear regression model, and mixed linear model).
The research revealed that there is a strong negative correlation between road traffic fatalities and economic activity in Jordan; this means that as the number of road traffic fatalities increase, the economic activity decrease.
The models would help to predict future number of fatalities based on estimated economic indicators for Jordan, and these models are able to characterize the short-term relationship of the variables, but not their long-term relationships.
خلال السنوات القليلة الماضية، أظهرت الوفيات الناجمة عن حوادث المرور تخفيضات مهمة في الأردن. بحيث ترتبط تطورات السلامة على الطرق بتنمية التنقل، والتي تتأثر بدورها بالعوامل الاجتماعية والاقتصادية (مستوى القيادة ، والنمو الاقتصادي ، إلخ).
يهدف البحث إلى تحديد ما إذا كان هناك ارتباط بين الوفيات الناجمة عن حوادث المرور والتنمية الاقتصادية في الأردن، وهو يتضمن اثنين من مؤشرات التنمية الاقتصادية: إجمالي الناتج المحلي ومعدل-البطالة.
تم الحصول على بيانات البحث اللازمة من مديرية الأمن العام ودائرة الإحصاءات العامة في الأردن في الفترة من 1997 إلى 2017 . تم إجراء تحليل وصفي للبيانات التي تم جمعها لتحديد العلاقة بين عدد الوفيات والناتج المحلي الإجمالي وحساب معامل التحديد ثم تم استخدام الحزمة الاحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية لتطوير ثلاثة نماذج (نموذج الانحدار السلبي ونموذج الانحدار الخطي والنموذج الخطي المختلط) تمت المقارنة بين نتائج النماذج الثلاثة واختيار النموذج الانسب تمثيلا للبيانات.
كشفت نتائج النماذج الثلاثة عن وجود علاقة بين الوفيات والنشاط الاقتصادي في الاردن، وطبيعة هذه العلاقة هي عكسية أي بزيادة النشاط الاقتصادي تقل اعداد وفيات الطرق وان النموذج الخطي المختلط هو الافضل مع وضع بعض الاسباب التي تفسر العلاقة.
استنادا الى نتائج البحث عززت من التدابير التي اتخذتها الجهات المختصة في الحد من وفيات الطرق في الاردن خلال الفترة الماضية ويوصى باستمرار الجهود المبذولة باتخاذ التدابير الفعالة والمقبولة وتطبيقها في الاردن باعتبار العقوبات المالية من اكثر الوسائل فعالية.
