The rapid developments in telecommunications and information technologies resulted in the emergence of internet of the things IoT technology. IoT has eliminated the distance barriers while providing smart services to users, that range from smart airline services, smart farming services, smart home services, smart routing service, and healthcare services. Healthcare services provide mobile and continuous health monitoring for patients, elderly people, and disabled people. Healthcare applications are considered promising applications since patients can be monitored continuously anywhere at any time. However, healthcare systems have become targets for security threats. The privacy and sensitivity of health data of the patients must be protected against attackers and malicious users. In this thesis, security threats of healthcare are studied and addressed, as well as security mechanisms to protect healthcare applications. A new healthcare system architecture is provided that supports user mobility. Also an anonymous authentication scheme is proposed, it is based on ECC and provides full anonymity and mutual authentication for both patient and doctor. Last but not least, a secure framework for securing healthcare data and communications is proposed. This framework is based on using RC5 and ECC cryptographic algorithms to provide data confidentiality, and it also depends on using the aforementioned anonymous authentication scheme. We did informal analysis to the protocols based on the assumptions and the properties of the used cryptographic primitives. The security analysis of the proposed framework showed that the proposed framework provides data confidentiality, data integrity, and mutual anonymous authentication, it is also resistant to replay attacks, man in the middle attacks, and impersonation attacks. For future work, we intend to perform formal analysis on our protocol, also we intend to study searchable encryption and use it in our framework
