This study was conducted in the poultry unit / School of Agriculture, at the University of Jordan. The study was performed in two trials. The main objectives of the study were to find out the effects of adding different proportions (0.0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%) of Moringa oleifera leaves (MOL) powder in the diets on the performance of broiler chickens (first trial). The second trial was conducted to compare the performance of broiler chickens fed MOL with probiotics (Bacillus licheniformis), butyric acid and combination of them. The first trial used a total of 300 day-old chicks (Indian River) randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments with 3 replicate pens of 25 chicks each. Pelleted feed (starter, grower, and finisher), were based on the nutritional guide of the Indian River strain. The addition of Moringa oleifera leaves powder was commenced at day one old, through the 35 days (starter 1 – 14 days, grower 15 - 28 days, and the finisher 29 to 35 days). The dietary treatments consisted of control (T1); control plus 0.1% MOL (T2); control plus 0.3% MOL (T3); and control plus 0.5% MOL (T4). Results showed that feed intake (FI) of birds fed T and T2 diets was the higher (p>0.05) compared to the other two treatments (T3 and T4). The results also showed that feed conversion ratio (FCR) was the lowest (p>0.05) in the birds fed T3 and T4 diets with a significant improvement (p>0.05) in the birds fed T2 diet compared to the T1 treatment. Mortality rate was not significant among all treatments. Body weight (BW) and body weight gain (BWG) of the birds fed T3 and T4 diets were significantly (p>0.05) better to those fed the T1 and T2 treatments. Results showed a significant enhancement (p>0.05) in some meat quality (pH and color) characteristics in the birds fed T3 and T4 diets compared to T1 and T2 treatments. Breast weight, small intestine weight, and intestine length were significantly (p>0.05) higher in T3 and T4 groups compared to T1 and T2. Results also showed a significant positive effect (p>0.05) of T3 and T4 treatments on intestinal morphology (higher villi length, surface area and villus height/crypt depth ratio) compared to T1 and T2 groups. Blood metabolites were not significant among all treatments.
In the second trial a total of 225 day-old chicks (Indian River) were randomly allotted to 3 treatments with 3 replicate pens of 25 birds each. Pelleted feed (starter, grower, and finisher), diets based on the nutritional guide of the Indian River strain, were fed 0.3% MOL plus 0.05% probiotic (T1); 0.3% MOL plus 0.1% butyric acid (T2) and 0.3% MOL plus 0.05% probiotic plus 0.1% butyric acid (T3) for 35 days of age. Results showed that FI for birds fed T1 and T2 diets was the highest (p>0.05) compared to those fed T3 diet. The results showed that FCR was the lowest (p>0.05) in the birds fed T3 diet compared to T1 and T2 diets. Mortality rate was not significant among all treatments. Body weight and body weight gain of the birds fed T3 diet were significantly (p>0.05) higher than those fed T1 and T2 diets. A significant difference (p>0.05) in meat color (yellowness b* and redness a*) in birds fed T3 diet in contrast to those fed T1 and T2 diets. Also there were a significant (p>0.05) enhancement in breast and thigh weights as well as in intestine length and weight in T3 treatment in addition to a significant positive effect (p>0.05) on intestinal morphology (higher villi length, surface area and villus height/crypt depth ratio) through the intestine segments (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) compared to T1 and T2. Blood metabolites were not significant among all treatments. In conclusion, it can be stated that supplementing MOL, probiotic (Bacillus licheniformis), and butyric acid significantly improved some performance parameters for broiler chickens (FCR, breast weight, thigh weight, meat tenderness), so that using these natural additives in broiler diets will be of value as in this experiment no chemicals or antibiotics were used.
أجريت هذه التجربة في حظيرة الدواجن / كلية الزراعة داخل حرم الجامعة الأردنية. كان الهدف الأول من التجربة: دراسة تأثير اضافة تراكيز مختلفة من بودرة أوراق نبات مورينغا أوليفيرا (0، 0.1%، 0.3% و 0.5%) على أداء صيصان دجاج اللحم (التجربة الأولى)، و الهدف الثاني كان مقارنة أداء دجاج اللحم الذي تغذى على أوراق المورينغا بالاضافة الى اضافة محفز النمو (Bacillus licheniformis) و حامض البيوتريك و و خليط منهما (التجربة الثانية): تم (في التجربة الأولى) تربية 300 صوص لحم بعمر يوم من سلالة انديان ريفر من كلا الجنسين. تم توزيعها بشكل عشوائي على اربع مجموعات. كل مجموعة احتوت على 3 مكررات و في كل مكرر 25 طير. العليقة الغذائية الرئيسية لمراحل التغذية كانت محببة ( البادئ, النامي , و النهائي ) تم تكوينها حسب الاحتياجات الغذائية لسلالة انديان ريفر. اضافة أوراق المورينغا كانت من عمر يوم واحد و لمدة 35 يوم (البادىء: 1-14 يوم، النامي 15 ل 28 يوم , و النهائي 29 ل 35 يوم). العلائق المستخدمة كانت، العليقة الرئيسية بدون اضافات (T1)، العليقة الرئيسية مضافا اليها 0.1% أوراق نبات مورينغا أوليفيرا T2))، العليقة الرئيسية مضافا اليها0.3% أوراق مورينغا أوليفيرا (T3) ، العليقة الرئيسية مضافا اليها 0.5% أوراق مورينغا أوليفيرا (T4). النتائج أظهرت أن كمية العلف المتناول من الطيور التي تغذت على T1 و T2 كانت الاعلى معنوياً (0.05) بالمقارنة مع باقي المجموعات، كما اوضحت النتائج ان كفاءة التحويل الغذائي كانت الأفضل (0.05) في الطيور التي تناولت العليقة T3 و T4، علما انه كان هناك تحسن معنوي (0.05) عن الطيور التي تناولت العليقة T2 بالمقارنة مع عليقةT1 . أما بالنسبة لوزن الطير و الزيادة في الوزن فقد كان الفرق المعنوي (0.05) لصالح الطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T3 و T4 بالمقارنة مع T1 و T2 . و أظهرت النتائج بشكل عام تفوق معنوي (0.05) للطيور التي تغذت على T3 و T4 في بعض خصائص و جودة اللحوم ( اللون و الرقم الهيدروجيني) بالمقارنة مع باقي المعاملات. وزن الصدر، وزن الأمعاء، و طول الأمعاء كان أعلى في T3 و T4 بالمقارنة مع T1 و T2. كما اظهرت النتائج التأثير المعنوي الايجابي لشكل الأمعاء للطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T3 و T4 بالمقارنة مع T1 وT2 فيما يخص طول الخملات، المساحة السطحية للخملة، و النسبة بين طول الخملة و عمق الجريب. فيما يخص فحوصات الدم لم يكن هناك أي فرق معنوي بين جميع المعاملات.
في التجربة الثانية تم عمل توزيع عشوائي ل 225 صوص لحم بعمر يوم من سلالة انديان ريفر من كلا الجنسين على ثلاث مجموعات، كل مجموعة احتوت على 3 مكررات و في كل مكرر 25 طير. العليقة محببة (بادىء، نمو، و نهائي) تم تكوينها حسب الاحتياجات الغذائية لسلالة انديان ريفر. تم اطعام الصيصان عليقة الرئيسية مضافا اليها 0.3% أوراق نبات مورينغا أوليفيرا مع 0.05% محفز نمو (T1)، العليقة الرئيسية مضافا اليها0.3% أوراق مورينغا أوليفيرا مع 0.1% حامض البيوتريك (T2) و العليقة الأساسية مع 0.3% أوراق نبات مورينغا أوليفيرا مع 0.05% محفز نمو و 0.1% حامض البيوتريك (T3) لمدة 35 يوم، النتائج أظهرت أن كمية العلف المتناول من الطيور التي تغذت على عليقة T1 و T2 كانت الاعلى معنوياً (0.05) بالمقارنة مع الطيور التي تناولت العليقة T3، كما اوضحت النتائج ان كفاءة التحويل الغذائي كانت الأفضل (0.05) في الطيور التي تناولت العليقة T3 بالمقارنة مع الطيور التي تغذت على T1 و T2 . أما بالنسبة لوزن الطير و الزيادة في الوزن فقد كان الفرق المعنوي (0.05) لصالح الطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T3 بالمقارنة بالطيور التي تغذت على عليقة T1 و T2 . و أظهرت النتائج ازدياد معنوي لمعدل لون اللحم الأحمر و الأصفر للطيور في المجموعة T3 بالمقارنة مع T1 و T2 . أظهرت النتائج تحسن معنوي في أوزان الصدر و الفخذ بالاضافة الى ازدياد وزن و طول الأمعاء للطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T3 بالمقارنة مع الطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T1 و T2 . كما اظهرت النتائج تأثير ايجابي للعليقة T3 فيما يخص طول الخملات، المساحة السطحية، و النسبة بين طول الخملة و عمق الجريب بالمقارنة مع الطيور التي تغذت على العليقة T1 و. فيما يخص فحوصات الدم لم يكن هناك أي فرق معنوي بين جميع المعاملات. في الختام، يمكن القول أن اضافة أوراق المورينغا، محفز النمو (Bacillus licheniformis )، و حامض البيوتريك حسن بشكل معنوي بعض خصائص دجاج اللحم ( معدل كفاءة التحويل، وزن الصدر، وزن الفخذ، طراوة اللحم) و لذلك ينصح باضافة هذه المواد الطبيعية مع علائق دجاج اللحم لتأثيرها القيم حيث لم يستخدم في هذه الدراسة أي نوع من الكيماويات أو المضادات الحيوية.
