Considering the continuous growth in population and the traffic demand in Amman and the inefficiency of conventional configurations of intersections. Researchers around the world are considering alternate unconventional systems. Unconventional intersections have shown significant improvements over conventional intersections in terms of most known measures of effectiveness (MOEs). This research explores the potential of implementing a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) and a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) in Amman, as well as evaluating and assessing both the conventional and unconventional junctions for the chosen intersections in Amman. The microsimulation software, VISSIM 9 is used to model, evaluate and assess both the current and proposed operational performance of the chosen interchanges. The implementation of SPUI at both Prince Faisal Ben Al Hussein Roundabout (5th Circle) and Prince Rashid Ben Al Hassan (6th Circle) showed significant improvement over current conventional roundabout system in terms of Queue Length, Vehicle Delay and other MOEs, showing a big jump in Level of Service from E and F to B and C respectively in both major interchanges. Studying the implementation of SPUI at Prince Talal Ben Mohammad Roundabout (7th Circle) showed that the 5-year old system proposed in 2014, have LOS D. On the other hand, modelling and analyzing the implementation of DDI at King Abdullah II Roundabout (8th Circle) showed to have degraded quality of transportation depicted in terms of most MOEs without affecting the LOS, valued E in both scenarios.

It is common knowledge that since the year 2008, the Amman Securities Exchange (ASE) has been witnessing consistent falls in its price index. This fact implies that on average, listed stock prices have been falling. Within this context, the issue of liquidity cost becomes more important than ever before. Indeed, with falling stock prices, one expects liquidity cost to increase.
Given the importance of liquidity cost in finance, this thesis examines liquidity cost in the ASE during the years 2008 – 2020. In addition, this thesis examines the determinants of liquidity cost, and whether or not the falls in stock prices have caused “stock price” more important determinant of liquidity cost.
Based on the empirical results, liquidity cost in the ASE is relatively high, and the fall in prices have made “stock price” an even more important determinant of liquidity cost. This is why the management of the ASE should take the issue of liquidity cost seriously, and adopt some measures to reduce it. One such recommendation is to introduce market makers.

In an effort to improve the level of service at intersections, using alternative intersection designs six highly congested intersections in Amman were selected to be studied, including Al-Assaf, Elba House, Firas Square, Jbaiha, Princess Alia, and Wadi Saqra. The implementation of Median U-Turn and Single Quadrant using existing road network that serves these two designs were tested on selected intersections, as well as, arterial roads, using SYNCHRO 8 as a microscopic simulation platform.
Delay per vehicle, intersection delay, gas emission, and level of service were the selected measures of effectiveness used to evaluate the proposed solution on intersections. It was found that level of service, delay per vehicle, and intersection delay were improved on the selected intersections, but this improvement had a negative impact on gas emissions, because the travel distance per vehicle increased. Generally, level of service improved from F to A on two intersections, from F to B, and from F to D on the remaining three intersections, delay per vehicle has been decreased by 92%, intersection delay has been decreased by 83%.
A direct inverse linear relationship was developed between gas emissions and delay per vehicle, with coefficient of determination of 89.26%, 87.49%, and 98.04% for the Hydrocarbon, Carbon monoxide, and Nitrogen Oxid emissions models, respectively.
The implementation of the alternative intersection during the peak hour improved both the average travel speed and average stopped delay per vehicle, since the intersection delay had been improved significantly at the main intersections. The implementation showed a 58.82% decrease in average stopped delay per vehicle. Therefore, it is recommended to explore the usage of alternative intersection designs at the stages of intersection enhancements.

In view of Amman's ongoing population and traffic demand increase, as well as the inefficiencies of traditional intersection designs. Alternative unconventional systems are being considered by researchers all around the world. Unconventional intersections have shown significant improvements over conventional intersections in terms of most known measures of effectiveness (MOEs), including queue length, maximum queue length, vehicle delay, stop delay, CO emissions, and the level of service (LOS). This study examines the feasibility of establishing two unconventional intersections, Split Intersection (SPI) and Median U-turn (MUT), two conventional interchanges, the Diamond interchange and the Partial cloverleaf interchange, two unconventional interchanges, Single-Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) and Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). For this purpose, the Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II signalized intersection was selected as one of the most congested signalized intersection in Amman, Jordan. VISSIM, microsimulation program, is used to model, analyze, and assess the operational performance of the current intersection and proposed models. The traffic analysis is performed for the current situation, five years after and twenty years after now.
When the proposed models Diamond, Partial Cloverleaf, MUT, SPUI, SPI, and DDI were evaluated for the base year and after five and after twenty years, The implementation of the Partial Cloverleaf model showed the highest improvement in the MOE for the base year with a vehicle delay equal to 3.83 seconds over the current signalized intersection system, implying an operational performance improvement of approximately 99%, showing a big jump in LOS from F to A. However, the findings showed that the SPUI model has the best MOE after five and after twenty years, with LOS B and C respectively.

عندما تم تقييم النماذج المقترحة Diamond، Partial cloverleaf،MUT ،SPUI ،SPI وDDI لسنة الأساس وبعد خمسة سنوات وبعد عشرون سنة, أظهر تنفيذ نموذج Partial Cloverleaf أعلى تحسن لمقاييس الفعالية للأداء التشغيلي لسنة الأساس حيث كانت مدة تأخير للمركبات تساوي3.83 ثانية مقارنة بنظام تقاطع الإشارات الحالي، مما يعني تحسن الأداء التشغيلي بنسبة 99٪ تقريبًا، مما يظهر قفزة كبيرة بمستوى الخدمة من Fإلى A. ومع ذلك ، فقد أظهرت النتائج أن نموذج SPUI لديه أفضل مقاييس فعالية بعد خمسة سنوات ولبعد عشرين سنه أيضاً بمستوى خدمة B و C على التوالي.

تستخدم الدواوير بشكل واسع بسبب فعاليتها في تقليل وقت التأخيرالمروري وطول الطابور. ولكن، ضعف آلية التحكم للشرطة المرورية قد يؤثر بشكل سلبي على الأداء التشغيلي للدوار. في هذا البحث، تم تقييم الأداء التشغيلي لسبعة دواوير محكومة بالشرطة ومقارنتها مع الأداء التشغيلي للدواير المحكومة بإشارات ضوئية. تم تقييم الأداء التشغيلي لهذين النوعين من الدواوير بناء على عدة معايير أداء مثل التأخير المروري وطول الطابور.
تم اقتراح حلين لتحسين الأداء التشغيلي للدواوير المحكومة بالشرطة. الأول هو تطبيق إشارة مرورية على الجهة التي كانت محكومة بالشرطة. تم تحسين مستوى الخدمة من E الى D على ثلاثة دواوير، و من E الى C على دوار واحد، و من F الى E على دوارين، ودوار واحد بقي على نفس مستوى الخدمة وهو F. أما الحل الثاني هو تطبيق إشارات مرورية على جميع جهات الدوار. حيث تم تحسين مستوى الخدمة من E الى D على أربعة دواوير، ومن F الى E على دوارين، ودوار واحد بقي على نفس مستوى الخدمة وهو F.
لذلك، تطبيق الإشارات المرورية قد عمل على تحسين الأداء التشغيلي للدواوير وأثبت انه حل أفضل من تدخل الشرطة للتحكم في المرور. بشكل أخر، إن وجود تدخل الشرطة يؤثر سلبيا على الأداء التشغيلي للدوار.
Roundabouts are widely used because of their efficiency in reducing delay times and queue lengths. However, the poor interfering control method of police enforcement may negatively affect the operational performance of a roundabout. In this research, the operational performance of seven roundabouts controlled by police enforcement were evaluated and compared with the operational performance of roundabouts controlled by metering signals. The operational performance of both roundabouts types was evaluated based on multiple measures of effectiveness, such as the average delay and the maximum queue length.
Two models were proposed to approve the operational performance of roundabouts controlled by police enforcement. The first proposed model is installing a metering signal on one approach that was controlled by the police enforcement. The Level of Service (LOS) of a roundabout is an indication for average delay, where it has an alphabetical order from A to F; A has the free flow conditions and F has the congested flow conditions. The LOS improved from E to D on 3 roundabouts, from E to C on one roundabout, from F to E, and one roundabout remained with the same LOS which was F. The second proposed model is installing metering signals on all approaches of the roundabout. LOS improved from E to D on 4 roundabouts, from F to E on two roundabouts, and one roundabout remained with the same LOS which was F.
Therefore, the implementation of metering signals did improve the overall performance of the roundabouts and proved to be that it is a better solution more than the police interference to regulate the traffic flows. In other words, the presence of the police enforcement interference is negatively affecting the performance of the roundabout.

The increase in the number of vehicles has caused many challenges, including an increase in traffic demand, especially at intersections. Despite the proposed traditional solutions, many of these challenges still exist. This required innovative, unconventional solutions that contribute to solving these challenges. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the operational performance of unconventional intersection designs in the existence of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) for signalized intersections, and to achieve the main goal of this study three signalized intersections in the Jordanian capital, Amman were taken as a case study.
PTV VISSIM (Academic version 2023) software was used as a microscopic traffic simulation. Two unconventional designs on each intersection were modeled and evaluated which were the J-turn and Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) designs. 18 models were created to achieve the main goal of this study including the base intersections, unconventional designs, AVs-base intersections, and AVs-unconventional designs. Required data including traffic volume was officially obtained from the traffic control center of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). For comparison purposes, the study adopted several operational measures, Measures Of Effectiveness (MOEs), including vehicle delay, Level Of Service (LOS), stop delay, emissions including Carbon monoxide (CO) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), fuel consumption, queue length, and maximum queue length.
Results showed that all of the intersections in the current conditions experience high delay values with fault LOS-F, and all the remained MOEs were also poor. The results of the J-turn unconventional design for the three intersections showed that the J-turn design isn’t a suitable choice within the current conditions, and employing this design leads to excessive vehicle delays. The simulation results for the SPUI design showed that this design is a suitable option within the current conditions for all intersections, and employing this design had led to a significant improvement on the operational performance of all intersections. The vehicle delay was hugely decreased to 97.21%, 93.78%, and 89.79% for the studied intersections respectively
Little improvements in the operational performance results have been highlighted due to adopting AVs on the base models. Vehicle delay was slightly decreased to 15.98%, 38.36%, and 18.06% for the studied intersections respectively. Finally, the main objective was achieved by the results of J-turn and SPUI unconventional intersection designs with AVs. In particular, the AVs-unconventional intersection designs (J-turn and SPUI) showed better improvements on the operational performance compared to the J-turn and SPUI designs without AVs.

تم استخدام برنامج (VISSIM) الإصدار الأكاديمي 2023 كمحاكاة مجهرية لحركة المرور؛ حيث تم تصميم وتقييم تصميمين غير تقليديين على كل تقاطع وهما: تصميما (J-turn) و (SPUI)؛ حيث تم إنشاء 18 نموذجًا لتحقيق الهدف الرئيسي من هذه الدراسة بما في ذلك التقاطعات الأساسية، والتصميمات غير التقليدية، والتقاطعات الأساسية في ظل وجود المركبات ذاتية القيادة ، والتصميمات غير التقليدية في ظل وجود المركبات ذاتية القيادة. وقد تم الحصول رسميًا على البيانات المطلوبة بما في ذلك الأحجام المرورية من مركز التحكم المروري في أمانة عمان الكبرى. ولأغراض المقارنة اعتمدت الدراسة العديد من مقاييس الفعالية وهي: قيم التأخير ، ومستوى الخدمة، و التأخير الناتج عن التوقف، والانبعاثات خاصة أول أكسيد الكربون وأكاسيد النيتروجين، واستهلاك الوقود، و طول الانتظار ، والحد الأقصى لطول الانتظار.
