Al al-Bayt University is located in Mafraq city, Jordan. It has a large surface area (7539 dunums), the university buildings covers only less than 10% of the university area. Therefore, in the strategic expansion future plans, new faculties and constructions can be built, accordingly, it is necessary to investigate the properties and structures of the soil foundation, delineating depth to bedrock and spatial variations of soil thickness by using geophysical methods. In this study, an integration of geophysical methods composed of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Time-Domain Electromagnetic (TDEM), Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), Multi-Channel Surface Wave (MASW) and geotechnical tests at selected sites were performed. TDEM and ERT results helped to delineate the subsurface geology and mapping soil and basalt flow thicknesses as well as subsurface geological structures. Superficial deposits thicknesses were found in the range of 9 to 16m, whereas, basalt flow thickness was found to vary from a few meters in the western part of the study area to more than 60m in the most eastern part of the study area. The seismic methods results characterizing the shallow subsurface layer up to 10m. The P-wave seismic refraction tomography (SRT) results indicated the presence of three principle layers; The first layer with an average thickness of 2m, having a primary velocity (Vp) of 175 to 400 m/s; The second layer with an average thickness of 2 to 3m, having a Vp in the range of 370 to 600 m/s, while the third layer (5-6m) thick, having a Vp in the range of 650 to 800 m/s. The S-wave velocities deduced from MASW measurements were found to lie in a narrow velocity range (250 to 450m/s), that badly resolved the subsurface layerings. Moreover, 4 soil samples were taken from the sites of seismic survey points for density calculations. The average calculated density was found to be 1.85 g/cm3. Two soil samples from nearby seismic profile-1 and seismic profile-4 were tested for geotechnical properties. The results showed that Poisson's ratio (σ) is ranging from 0.24 to 0.34, Young's modulus (E) ranges from 0.0003 to 0.00079GPa, Bulk modulus (K) ranges from 0.328 to 0.582GPa, Lame' Constant (λ) ranges from 0.25 to 0.423GPa and Shear modulus (μ) ranges from 0.000116 to 0.000321GPa for the four tested soil samples. A good correlation was found between the calculated and measured Young's modulus (E) and a good correlation was found between the measured and calculated Bulk modulus (K) for the two tested samples. The study recommends to conduct a detailed geophysical study before starting any type of geo engineering construction.
